Treatment of Sore Eyelids

There are some simple, safe ways to treat Blepharitis and other conditions that cause sore eyelids.

Avoid Rubbing Your Eyes

However uncomfortable and annoying the soreness is, don't rub your eyes.

Cleanse The Eyelids

It is vital that you keep your eyelids clean, particularly at the margins (the eyelashes). Put a few drops of baby shampoo in water and wet a cotton wool ball. Clean the eyelids carefully (never re-use cooton wool balls) and dry with a clean cloth.

Eyelid Massage

Using your fingertips (always wash your hands before you massage each eyelid), gentle stroke the eyelid from top to lashes. Alternatively, use a clean cotton wool ball to massage each eyelid.

Hot Compress

Soak a face cloth in warm water and place it over your (closed) eyes for five minutes.

Medical Assistance

Artifical teardrops, eyedrops and ointments can be used to enhance or stimulate the production of tears and the thickness of the tear film. Antibiotic treatments may be required to deal with bacterial infection.
