Ocular Rosacea
Ocular Rosacea is associated with the skin condition Acne Rosacea. This usually affects people with light skin and causes redness and bumps on the face (particularly the forehead). In puberty -- when Acne Rosacea generally begins -- facial flushing can be a problem (caused by changes in body temerature).
Around 60% of Acne Rosacea sufferers develop symptoms in the eyes.
Symptoms of Ocular Rosacea
Blepharitis is itself a symptom of Ocular Rosacea :
- burning sensation
- crusting of the eyelashes
- dry eyes
- loss of eyelashes
- red eyes
- sensation of having something in your eye
- severe itching
- sore eyelids
The symptoms of Acne Rosacea include :
- spots on the nose, cheeks and forehead
- dry, flaking skin
- flushed skin
Treatments of Ocular Rosacea
Acne Rosacea sufferers should avoid hot drinks, spicy foods and alcohol. They should protect their skin from the sun and avoid activities that significantly raise their body temperature. Controlling the skin condition will help to alleviate the Ocular Rosacea. There are also treatments for Blepharitis that will help to ease the discomfort.
