Blepharitis
Blepharitis is inflammation and soreness of the eyelids. It's a common disorder and usually caused by a low-grade infection or a mild skin condition.
Anterior & Posterior Blepharitis
Anterior Blepharitis affects the outside of the eyelids, usually at the eyelashes. Generally this is caused by a bacterial infection or by scalp dandruff.
Posterior Blepharitis affects the inner eyelid. It is usually caused by problems with the oil (meibomian) glands or by a skin disorder (see Rosacea).
Symptoms of Blepharitis
Whether you have Anterior or Posterior Blepharitis, the symptoms are the same :
- burning sensation
- crusting of the eyelashes
- dry eyes
- loss of eyelashes
- red eyes
- sensation of having something in your eye
- severe itching
- sore eyelids
Other symptoms can include :
- blurred vision
- excessive tearing
- frothy tears
- photosensitivity (sensitivity to light)
Blepharitis or similar symptoms to Blepharitis can also appear due to allegeries or as a result of Diabetes.
Treatment of Blepharitis
You should always consult your physician regarding your sore eyelids but there are some simple, safe ways to relieve the discomfort of Blepharitis.
